I’m mostly posting this so I have record of it for my own information, however I think it’s applicable for ALL Crafters that want to start a business.  Make sure you know the laws….I guess that goes without saying for any business.  When I started the radio station, the amount of laws you had to know in order not to get sued was insane, I think that was part of the reason I shut down the radio station, I just couldn’t keep up with all the laws in all the different countries and ignorance is not an excuse.

Anyways, here is some info on the textile label laws in a few different countries….

Canada
USA
UK
Australia

Most of these laws are pretty much the same in every country however if you are selling online and someone buys from another country, it is worth making sure you are following their laws.  There are a lot of under cover agencies out there….

Wow, this weekend was very nostalgic.  Going through bands that we used to play on our radio station.  I thought I would feature one that we have video footage from the time they visited our little studio in Kensington Market.

This morning I decided to cut up a shower curtain I had found at Value Village.  I love the fabric and I have a navy dress that I haven’t worn because I didn’t like the belt it came with.I think this will be the perfect compliment to it.  (I’ll post pictures another day of the actual outfit.

Here is the belt on a dress I’m currently constructing…. (sorry for the glare, it’s the best I could do)

To combat laziness, I have decided to create a commitment board.  I think the reason why I got lazy was my “to do” list was out of control and I could figure out where to start.

I have a few white boards around the house, so one of them, I made into a commitment board.  Each day I write ONE thing I am committed to doing and I can’t go to bed until I complete it.  Hopefully the feeling of not being overwhelmed will help me keep my commitments.

Yesterday I hit up fabricland (my commitment for the day) cause I needed some home decor thread and found some great pieces of material (I love the scrap bin).  You do take a bit of a risk with this because the condition and the size is really unknown but that sort of makes it the fun part…there are tons of little projects I want to do so I’m little scraps are good for me, especially when they are 1.25 a piece…;)

Well it’s officially may and I have already broken my pledge.  Although I’m obsessed with sewing and making stuff, I just can’t find the time…(although I really do have tons of it).  I get home from my day job and I don’t want to do anything.  I really need to kick this habit of laziness…….

Any suggestions?

_______________

After writing this post I actually googled it…LOL not that this is anything new but I need to make the commitment to change….here is what I found on some tips not to be lazy:

  • When contemplating whether or not you should do something, think to yourself “I’ll do what I have to do, so I can do what I want to do.”
  • Use common sense and picture the demon and the angel on your shoulders. If you work at it using common sense, the angel will win and the demon will lose (always).
  • If you do not work or need to leave your house first thing in the morning - set your alarm to wake up at a decent morning hour - say 7 am. Shower, get dressed and make yourself look presentable before leaving your room. Always dress as if you were planning to leave the house — get out of the jammies before leaving the bedroom. Make your bed so it doesn’t appeal to you later.
  • Make sure you’re on a healthy diet; junk food doesn’t give your body the nutrients it needs to be active.
  • Exercise. Go jogging through your neighborhood a few times a week, and in time you will see an improvement in the way that you feel and look. Working out will give you a lot of motivation and keep you from getting or feeling lazy. If you haven’t worked out much before, stretch first, then start slow. If you don’t, you will be in so much pain from sore or pulled muscles it will be easy to use it as an excuse to stop exercising.
  • Make sure to drink a lot of water all day long, so you don’t become dehydrated.
  • Getting enough sleep each night can make you feel more awake. Depending on your activity and age, you may need up to 10 hours (teenagers) or as little as 5 (elderly).
  • Avoid sugar and especially foods with “high fructose corn syrup” or “corn syrup” in the ingredients, as these can lead your body into metabolizing sugars instead of fats. Also, unnatural sugars (without fiber) may give you a short energy buzz, but then a blood sugar drop and you will feel fatigued and hungry.
  • Consider getting rid of your television. (we have contemplated this one for a while now, not getting rid of it, just getting rid of cable…..maybe it’s time).
  • Remember to do large and small things with love because if anything is worth doing then it is worth doing well but at the same time you should be able to discern when to leave well enough alone.
  • Place copies of a goal sheet or your routine everywhere: one on the fridge, on your night stand, by your computer, on your bathroom mirror, even on the bedroom door. Just place them where you look or go to often.
  • Doing meditation can help reduce laziness by improving your level of alertness, your awareness of the present moment as you pay attention to your breathing, posture and 5 senses, and your capacity to control and focus your thoughts, emotions and level of positive energy.
  • The chances are high that if you do not want help with a behavioral problem, then no matter how hard others try they simply won’t be able to help you. If you really want help, you will try almost anything to obtain help.
  • Surround yourself with people who uplift you, whether it is through media, technology or otherwise, because the love, support and encouragement of others can boost your inner strength.
  • Just imagine the task is irritating you. Once you complete it, it won’t bother or worry you anymore. If you don’t complete it, you may not be feeling comfortable.
  • Try using the 20/10 technique. A 20/10 is 20 minutes of completing a task (cleaning, studying, what have you) followed by a 10-minute break. 45/15s are the same, only, you know, 45 and 15.
